Songwriter honored twice in one week
Nashville, Tennessee
(April 21) Wayne Haun, a preeminent songwriter for Lillenas Publishing Company and Psalmsinger Music, was recognized by Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) and the Gospel Music Association (GMA) recently for excellence in songwriting.
On April 4, Haun was recognized for co-writing the song When the Trumpet Sounds, by BMI as one of the past year's most performed songs on Christian radio and television. The ceremony included a performance of the song by southern gospel act Triumphant Quartet.
"As publisher, a longtime friend of Wayne, and fan of his writing, it is a joy to see him honored in this way," said Dave Clark, creative director of Lillenas Publishing and Psalmsinger Music.
Haun was honored April 15 by the GMA with a Dove Award nomination for Songwriter of the Year. Haun has received more than 60 nominations and has won 13 Dove awards, but this is the first Songwriter of the Year nod.
"I want to thank the GMA, BMI, and my publisher," Haun said. "I also want to thank everyone that has recorded one of my songs. They are the reason I'm here today. Words elude me right now. I only wish I could express how grateful and honored I am."
The 42nd Annual GMA Dove Awards took place Wednesday, April 20, at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia, but will be televised at 7 p.m. ET Easter Sunday, April 24, on GMC.
